The Consensus of the Salaf Regarding Creed

The creed cited by Harb bin Ismãil al-Kirmāni (d. 280H) from the Imâms of the Sunnah of the second century Hijrah is found within his larger work titled, Masail Harb. This work was described by Imãm al-Dhahabi as "from the most precious of the books of the Hanbalis" and comprises issues of jurisprudence, creed and knowledge of the narrators of hadith which Harb took from Imām Ahmad and Ishãq bin Rähüyah.

• Harb bin Isma'il al-Kirmani (رحمَهُ اللَّهُ) travelled to lraq, Makkah, Khurasăn, Shãm, Egypt, Antioch, Turts and Himş, taking knowledge from the prominent Imams of the Sunnah. Imam al-Dhahabi writes: "The Imām, Allamah, Abü Muhammad Harb bin Ismä il al-Kirmäni, the jurist, student of Ahmad bin Hanbal. He travelled and sought knowledge, taking from Abu al-Walid al-Țayālisi, Abü Bakr al-Humaydi, Abü "Ubayd, Sa'id bin Manşür, Ahmad bin Hanbal and Ishãg bin Rähüyah."
  
• Al-Mardāwi wrote in al-Insaf: "Harb is from the senior Imams of hadith." Ibn Abi Hätim said: "Abu Muhammad (Harb) was the companion of my father in Sham. My father wrote from him in Damascus." Ibn Abi Ya'lã said, citing Abü Bakr al-Khalläl: "He was the jurist of the land and the ruler had made him preside over judgement and other affairs in the land." Regarding Harb's citation of the consensus of creed from the Salaf, In al-Qayyim wrote in his Nüniyyah: "And look at Harb and the consensus he cited. What an achievement from this youth of Kirmãn."
